EMERGENCY NUMBERS HERE IN JAPAN

INTRODUCTION
So you are working right now here and everything is going smooth, you are starting to get used in living here in Japan. But we don't know what will happen in our daily living here. This article is about where to get help or whom to be call when you have some emergency cases, or something that matters life and death. Be sure to remember the informations here so that you will not get panic at the time of that emergency situation. Here are the hotlines that you can call at the time of emergency cases. They call it here 緊急通報用電話番号(KINKYUU TSUUHOUYOU DENWA BANGOU) and here they are:

   

  • 110
    They call this number here in japan as "ひゃくとうばん" (HYAKUTOUBAN), but the formal name given to this number is 警察通報用電話(KEISATSU TSUUHOUYOU DENWA). This is the number use when you want to call a police at the time of emergency when you need their assistance. This number was started to use here in Japan on October 1, 1948. At the start, city of Tokyo, Osaka, Kyoto, Yokohama, Kawasaki, Nagoya, Kobe and Fukuoka are the only cities that used it. But now, it is for nationwide use. Since it is number [110], they made January 10 or 1/10 as an official day for this number.

    When you call 110 for police assistance, there are some cases that the line is crowded and there is a need for you to wait. In that case, don't hang-up or try to call the number again. If you will do that, you will be at the last line that will wait to be answer. So the best way, is just wait for them to answer your call. And when they answer your call, give the informations correctly and specific.

  • 118
    They call it here in Japan as "ひゃくじゅうはちばん" (HYAKU JUUHACHI BAN). This number is used to call for emergency related to incidents or accidents that happened in the sea within Japan sea boundary. Not only that, but also if you have something to report like un-identified ship and smuggling.

    They call it here in Japan as "ひゃくじゅうきゅうばん" (HYAKU JUUKYUU BAN). This number is used to call fire ambulance in time of fire accident. Not only this, but you can also use this number to call for emergency ambulance in the time of accident that matters life and death. When you call this number, your call will be connected to the monitoring center or command and control center that will assist you.

    This number was started to used here in Japan on 1927. Nowadays, lot of hoax call or malicious call has been receiving by the command center. Almost 20 to 30% of the call they received is just a hung-up call or a hoax call and it is their main problem right now how to avoid this.

    So, if you are in emergency cases, confirm first if your call is truly and emergency one that you need their assistance. Doing this will help them to entertain someone that is in the state of bad situation. And if you will call this number, try to give the information they needed correctly and specific.

So, here are the main emergency numbers that you can use here in Japan at emergency cases. 110 and 119 are the most commonly used because lots of accident happened in the land than in the sea. The numbers above is only 3 digits, i think it is easy to remember and there is no need to memo.
