18 YEARS OLD below is considered MINORS in the Philippines

I think madalas ninyong marinig ang salitang MINORS, pero ano ba talaga ang age nito. Meron mga nagsasabing 16, 18, or 21 pa. Iba iba ang sinasabi ng iba. So I tried to check it and share it here.

Ayon sa batas natin or Philippine Republic Act, ang edad na maituturing na minors ay below 18 YEARS OLD daw. This is according to Republic Act No. 6809, signed December 13, 1989. Section 1 of RA 6809 is as follows:

Art. 234. Emancipation takes place by the attainment of majority. Unless otherwise provided, majority commences at the age of eighteen years. The AGE of MAJORITY starts at 18.

Subalit medyo nakakalito lamang ito dahil sa iba iba ang age bracket ng mga tinatawag na MINORS depende sa sangay ng gobyerno sa atin. When we say minors, ito ay mga dependent pa rin sa mga parents nila.

Halimbawa, sa PhilHealth, below 21 ay tinuturing nilang dependents pa rin at hindi 18. Same with SSS and PAG-IBIG. Ang mga batang below 21 years old can still received benefits.

Pagdating naman sa GSIS, DSWD, DOLE at COMELEC at iba pa, 18 years old below ang tinuturing nilang MINORS. So iba iba ang definition ng MINORS depende sa sangay at bata na nagpapairal nito.
